Tigers, Spartans & Wolverines Plan For Full Capacity
Do you remember what it was like to go to an event with a bunch of people around? How about a sporting event...with a full capacity crowd? The Detroit Tigers, Michigan State University and The University of Michigan have announced plans to return to full capacity for outdoor activities.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that outdoor venues would no longer be subject to capacity restrictions as of June 1. With Michigan's "MI Vacc To Normal" plan, Whitmer adds the final step of removing the mask mandate takes effect July 1. Whitmer adds businesses can still require people wear masks and encouraged people to be patient with each other.
The Detroit Tigers commented on Twitter,
"We can’t wait to celebrate with 41,083 of our closest friends."
The baseball team said it would announce updated ticket information at a later date. Michigan State said it's planning on full capacity for its six home football games this season. Michigan State athletic director Bill Beekman told Fox 17,
"We are planning to have a full and robust Spartan Stadium and deliver as traditional a Spartan football experience as we possibly can."
The University of Michigan also plans for full capacity this fall. They commented in a release,
"This guidance from the State of Michigan clears the path for Michigan Athletics events to return to full capacity beginning with the fall competition."
Local businesses are excited about the announcement too. Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Rick Baker called the announcement exciting news, saying it’s exactly what the chamber has been pushing for.
