Based on this Facebook user's question, missed trash pickups must be constantly in Grand Rapids.
Since I was curious about the question, I looked up what you should do if this happens.
According to the city of Grand Rapids' website, there are a few steps that you must take if your trash pickup is missed.
Make Sure You Are Eligible For Pick Up
It would be best if you asked the following questions because there may be a reason why your trash was not picked up.
- Have you checked your balance to make sure you have sufficient funds for pick-up?
- Did you have your trash out on your correct collection date?
- Was your cart put out before 7:00 AM on your collection date?
- Was there a tag left on your cart alerting you of a potential issue?
- Are you trying to put in a request for missed pick-up before 3:00 PM?
If a tag was left on your cart, it could mean one of the following things:
- Your cart was not at the curb
- Your cart blocked or was too close to other items like a phone pole, mailbox, or other cart)
- Open bags or loose items in the cart
- Unpaid account balance
- Service was not active
If you are sure that your trash was missed, you can call 311 or 616-456-3000.
The city of Grand Rapids offers a fee based pickup ($27.50) to customers who fall in two categories:
- If you placed your cart out late,
- or GPS shows that we serviced the street (truck traveled on the street) and there are no other reasons to stop pick-up like a negative balance or a violation notice.
The cost is only incurred if someone wants GPS to make an extra trip back to their location.
