As a post-partum cardiomyopathy survivor, it's my duty and pleasure to ask you to wear red on Friday, February 4th. Reclaim your Rhythm!

Friday, Feb. 4, is National Wear Red Day, part of the American Heart Association's signature women’s initiative “Go Red for Women” campaign to raise awareness about heart disease.

The Grand Rapids Go Red for Women Luncheon is Thursday, February 17 from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Watermark Country Club.

The American Heart Association began the Go Red For Woman campaign 18 years ago. The Go Red For Woman campaign began as a way to highlight the importance of heart health. It morphed into a day of education by spreading heart health stats, facts and information.

Now, the day is used to remind women to commit to stand together and take charge of their heart health as well as the health of those they can’t bear to live without.

Lynne Jarman-Johnson, the co-chair for Grand Rapids’ Go Red for Women told WOOD TV,

"know your numbers, including cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index and blood sugar. Knowing these numbers, what they mean and how to control them greatly reduces the risk for heart disease."
