Is this not insane?

If you have been over to Southeast Grand Rapids anytime before noon, you may have experienced what I did.

Your morning and afternoon commute to and from work may have just gotten delayed.

Why Are All Of The Lights Out In Southeast Grand Rapids?

It seems like a bunch of areas throughout Grand Rapids do not have working traffic lights.

These areas include Alger Heights, Burton Heights, and along Division and Burton

The light outage may also be affecting traffic on Martin Luther King and past Division Avenue.

This has caught the attention of people on Facebook as well.

So, what should you do when traffic lights are out?

Report a Blinking or Out Traffic Signal

1. Take note of the traffic signal location

The City of Grand Rapids asks you for the traffic signal location. It helps to have an address close to the traffic signal.

2. You can give City of Grand Rapids a call at 311 or 616-456-3000.

Is this an issue with a red, yellow, or green traffic signal problem? Call us right away -- this is an emergency.

If you're calling after 5:00 p.m., they still want to know right away. But I recommend not wasting your time.

3. Listen to the prompts

If you’re calling during business hours Monday – Friday 8 am to 5 pm, stay on the line for the next agent. If you’re calling outside of business hours, press 2. Wait until you hear lights, signs, and signal emergencies, and press 2 again.

4. Report the outage

Let the city know about the outage and the traffic signal location.
