If you file your taxes and claim an Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit, you may experience a delay in getting your refund back! The Protecting Americans Against Tax Hikes Act (PATH), which went into effect on January 1, is causing the delay, according to KXXV.

If your return includes either an EITC or ACTC, the IRS will hold your entire refund until mid- February. The IRS says that the delay is a security precaution; it will give them extra time to stop fraudulent refunds from getting issued to identity thieves and help stop fraudulent claims. The tax season starts Monday, Jan. 23 and you must file by Tuesday, April 18th.
