For the second edition of GR's Greatest, Lisha B is chatting with no other than, Sonny Ski.
Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sonny Ski says that he came out of the womb straight to a musical household.
His father was his earliest influence because as a child, Sonny would fall asleep at night to the sounds of his father playing bass in the basement.
After losing a rap battle at his high school, Sonny started taking rap seriously/
If you ask Sonny Ski who he is influenced by, he would reply with names such as Kendrick Lamar, DJ Quik, and Slum Village just to name a few.
Sonny has performed all over Grand Rapids at spots such as The Pyramid Scheme, Wealthy Theatre, MyPlaceBar, Social House, Turnstiles, Listening Room, MuseGR (also Southeast Muse), Ambrosia Theatre, Garfield Park, and even Calder Plaza during ArtPrize!
He was also crowned the winner of Word Of Mouth Wednesdays at MyPlaceBar, and was given the name, "The People's Champ."
Sonny's latest and first single off of his upcoming album "States Of Mind LP' is "Second Son". Sonny describes this track as a "therapeutic lyrical onslaught. In this confession, Sonny takes full accountability for all his wrongdoings in the past and vows to lead a different life.
