Much to the disappointment of lots, ArtPrize 2020 was cancelled. But with an event that attracts hundreds of thousands of people, it only made sense to postpone an event like that. However, that doesn't mean Grand Rapidians have to end the summer without any fun.

A month-long event called Bridge Grand Rapids will run from August 28th to October 3rd. The event will feature live music, comedy shows, art, cultural events, and of course food. MLive reports the idea was put together by four local organizations: the city of Grand Rapids, Experience GR, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.

Evette Pittman, who is the supervisor of the city's Office of Special Events told MLive,

We want to reactivate our community and reengage people.I think that a lot of people are ready to come outside safely and just enjoy some music, enjoy some local eats, and just enjoy seeing their community.

Ain't that the truth!! I always look forward to a summer in Grand Rapids because of all the events and the liveliness that happens downtown, and it goes without saying... this summer has been a bummer so it's nice to have something to look forward to.

MLive says the final details are still being worked out but so far residents can expect music and art at Rosa Parks Circle, comedy at Studio Park, and an art display at Ah-Nab-Awen Park.

Even more convenient, not all of the events will be held downtown -- some will be held in the various surrounding neighborhoods. So if you're someone who avoids downtown traffic like the plague, there's a good chance you'll be able to attend one of the neighborhood events.

Not only will this be a great opportunity for you and your family and friends to get out of the house and enjoy the city but also to support our local businesses and restaurants who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

Organizers of Bridge Grand Rapids feel confident that people can attend these events safely and still follow the most recent executive orders.

ArtPrize was scheduled to begin on September 16 this year but was canceled back in June due to coronavirus concerns.
