MiBiz reports that Eastern Kille Distillery has sold their manufacturing and tasting room at 700 Ottawa Ave NW to Spectrum Health. The health system, which paid $3.5 million for the property, is planning to build a new eight-story office tower in the area.

According to MiBiz, the $3.5 million dollar price tag is more than ten times what the distillery paid for the property in 2014.

It sounds like Eastern Kille plans to stick around though. In a post to Facebook, owners said,

Big things coming, we can’t wait to share more details in the near future as they unfold. For now, rest assured we will remain in our favorite city of Grand Rapids, just eventually under a new roof.

MiBiz reports that Eastern Kille will stay at its current location through the end of 2022.

The distillery opened in Grand Rapids in 2015 under the name Gray Skies Distillery LLC. The business underwent a name change in 2019, following a trademark dispute with Skyy Vodka.

This is the latest of Spectrum Health's acquisitions in the North Monroe Business District. In January, Spectrum purchased the Brass Works Building and began renovating it. Demolition of the former Gill Industries building is now underway. The health system plans to build its Center for Transformation and Innovation there, which will house about 1,200 administrative employees. Construction is set to being later this summer, with the goal of completion before summer 2023, MiBiz reports.
