What Changes Are Chick-fil-A Making?

Chick-fil-A announced that it would be changing its chicken!

The fast food chain will be shifting from antibiotic-free chicken this spring.

In the announcement,

“To maintain supply of the high-quality chicken you expect from us, Chick-fil-A will shift from No Antibiotics Ever (NAE) to No Antibiotics Important To Human Medicine (NAIHM) starting in the Spring of 2024."

While NAE means no antibiotics of any kind used in raising the animals, NAIHM means that it

"restricts the use of those antibiotics that are important to human medicine and commonly used to treat people, and allows use of animal antibiotics only if the animal and those around it were to become sick.”

Why are they doing this?

It seems to be due to supply reasons.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a Chick-fil-A spokesperson shared their reasoning for this change.

"As we looked to the future, the availability of high-quality chicken that meets our rigid standards became a concern. This change enables us to not only ensure we can continue to serve high-quality chicken, but also chicken that still meets the expectations our customers count on us to deliver.”

Chick-fil-A is not the first company to make this major change.

Panera Bread also made the switch from antibiotic-free in its pork and turkey products. They also stated that the policy limited its supply chain options.

The Public's Reaction To Chick-fil-A Changes

While the fast food chain thinks this is a great idea, many people do not agree with the changes.

According to Healthline, they explained what could happen with the overuse of antibiotics.

"The overuse of antibiotics in food-producing animals is being blamed for the increase in resistant bacteria, also known as 'superbugs.' When these are passed to humans, they can cause serious illness."
