Getting A COVID-19 Vaccine at Meijer?

Let's see, my grocery list, hmm, lettuce, carrots, bread, milk, chicken, soup and, oh yes, COVID vaccine. That may sound pretty far fetched, but it's not. Soon this year you'll be able to get a COVID vaccination from a Meijer pharmacy.

Fox17 reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is partnering with several pharmacies across the nation to make sure the vaccine is available to as many people as possible and Meijer is one of those partners.

I don't doubt that someday you'll be able to get the vaccine in their stores at the pharmacy, but during this rollout time, Meijer says it is looking at locations to create large spaces to administer the vaccine. Flu shot clinics this fall were held in sports arenas and outdoor spaces to accommodate social distancing guidelines. Meijer coordinated clinics at Comerica Park in Detroit, and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. What do you think, maybe VanAndel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids, or Fifth Third Ballpark, home of the Whitecaps? Could be, you never know.

Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said in a release:

Throughout this pandemic our stores and store teams have played an important role in supporting communities throughout the Midwest. We are aggressively preparing for the next phase of this challenge, which will be to ensure our communities have the ability to quickly and safely obtain a COVID-19 vaccine once they become available.

With the first doses of the vaccine now being given to doctors, nurses and hospital staff on the front lines battling the pandemic, and the once unthinkable threshold of 300,000 people dead from the virus, the vaccinations can't come soon enough.
